I am Carlo Vergara, 25, a digital marketing specialist, and one of the tenured folks in the company. As someone who started out timid and unsure, I never thought I would come this far. When I applied for a position, I honestly didn’t have the experience that they were expecting me to have. I was a customer service associate in a medical account for almost 2 years, had a little background in photo and video editing, and that’s all I knew. I never had experience doing admin and marketing tasks for clients. In short, I knew nothing about being a VA. At that time, I remember they were looking for admin assistants and digital marketing specialists and I was a master of none of those. But they must have seen my potential because I surprisingly got the job and was requested to start as soon as possible.
Fast forward to when I already started ‘training’, I was flabbergasted at how fast everything goes down in the office. On the first day I took a few exams, the next day I was bombarded with training courses, on the third day an overview was given and voila, I already went hands-on with the person with who I got partnered with. Long story short, I started as an admin assistant for 2 clients and eventually got re-profiled to digital marketing. I survived.
I had an extremely hard time when I started because I had to figure some things out on my own. Did I appreciate it at that time? No. But now when I look back at it, I actually feel grateful because I was somehow required to take the first step in practicing self-sufficiency. I don’t mean to say that you’re not going to have the support you will be needing in case you work here because of course, the support will always be there, just not to the point when you will be spoon-fed.
